He Did It! Jack ran a 4:58 for the 1600m last night in a dual meet against Tallmadge. Not only that, he and a teammate overtook the Tallmadge leader to fight for the win. Above is that fight to the finish. Below is the start.
They went out fast with Jack in last at the 400 mark. But, it was the exact pace he needed to be at. Then the below gap opened up and I was nervous he would not close it. He did. He ran through some pain in the middle laps. The leader was in trouble but far up the track. I yelled to get him.
Jack and his teammate ran him down on the backstretch. Jack went into the lead for the first time in a race. Then he started to battle his teammate. His teammate got him by 1 second in the end. It was a well executed race. So much fun to watch!
Below, he ran the 4x800 before the mile. Here, he waits for the girls race to finish. Last week he ran a 5:01 in the freezing cold against Stow (below). We knew he could go sub 5 and now he's done it.
He was 4th in that race. In all his races this year he recovers quickly and has shown vastly improved racing abilities and maturity.
We're very proud of him. He has come a looooong way since 9th grade.
