School days at home are busy. Jack is at the computer ALL day for two days per week. Luke has fairly long days most of the week but gets longer breaks in the middle of the day.
Some of those breaks are to do his work off-line. For example, make a space ship or do math problems. They're probably calculating the “the stretching function” of a warp engine, or some such thing. Cats always help with the process.
Or just hide under the book.
