Today Jack witnessed the swearing in of Barack Obama, President of the United States of America. He will grow up with newfound hope, not knowing firsthand the dysfunctional leadership and poor judgment that eroded this nation on so many fronts.
Instead, he gets to join us in a hopeful future. Maybe it is a sign that our country is maturing.
It is potentially a powerful time of enlightenment. We should fully drink in this moment but also remember the recent (
paraphrased) words of Travis Smiley, “This is not the conclusion of Martin Luther King’s dream but a down payment on it.” There is a lot of work to be done but it’s nice to think it is possible.
Needless to say, we’re very excited.
