Freud the Artist

Did you know that Sigmund Freud could draw? A recent NY Times article describes a new exhibition that will trace Freud's transition from neurology to psychoanalysis as manifest in his drawings of nerve tissues seen through a microscope and his diagrams of the working human mind.

There is a great deal to know about Freud. Numerous "fun facts” about the man are left undiscovered. For example, he is always seen with a beard because he was covering up the scars left behind due to a surgically implanted wooden jaw. Like him or not Freud created a paradigm shift in our thinking. As a friend of mine said this week, “Given the prolific nature of his work we have to allow for a few mistakes.”

We may visit New York this summer and I’m going to look into the exhibit. These drawings are also available in a book. You can find a video here.
